Apple's SDE interview process in India runs 5 to 6 rounds and is unusually heavy on behavioral evaluation relative to other FAANG companies.
About Apple
Apple India (Bengaluru) is a Tier-1 engineering hub for the Apple Silicon, Apple Intelligence, Services, and Maps organisations: not a support centre. The campus produces shipped software and silicon.
Recruiter screen: background check and role alignment, 30 min
Coding screen: 1 to 2 DSA problems via phone or HackerRank
On-site or virtual loop: 3 to 4 rounds covering DSA, low-level design, and values
System design round (SDE-2 and above): architecture and API design
Values round: behavioral interview with hiring manager
Offer and background verification
Coding Screen (45 min)
1 to 2 medium-hard DSA problems. Clean, compilable code with edge-case handling is expected, not pseudocode.
DSA Rounds x2 (45 min each)
Trees, graphs, DP, and string problems. Interviewers probe deeply with follow-up complexity questions and ask you to optimise your initial solution.
Low-Level Design (45 min)
Design a class hierarchy or object model for a real feature. Think parking lot, file system, or cache with expiry. OOP principles and extensibility are evaluated.
System Design (60 min, SDE-2+)
Design a distributed system at scale. API contracts, data models, and failure modes are all in scope.
Values Round (45 min)
4 to 6 structured behavioral questions. This round is taken as seriously as the technical bar. Prepare specific stories, not generalised answers.
Apple interviewers score answers on structure and specificity, not just content. Use the STAR method for every behavioural question.
Common mistake:Saying "we did X" throughout. Interviewers score your individual contribution. If you can't separate what you did from what the team did, it signals low ownership.
